Objective:
Developed an innovative wheelchair with adjustable, on-the-fly features aimed at significantly enhancing the quality of life for users, allowing them to perform tasks beyond the capabilities of conventional wheelchairs.
Approach:
• Designed a linkage system to develop an adjustable manual wheelchair that was capable of transitioning between sitting and standing positions, enabling the users to have a more dynamic daily life and do more of their daily tasks on their own while reducing the product price compared to electric wheelchairs with similar functions.
• Performed structural finite element analysis and topology optimization (Ansys), reducing weight of the wheelchair while guaranteeing required strength.
• Prepared bill of materials and engineering drawings.
• Focused on user-centric design, ensuring that the features cater to a wide range of mobility needs, empowering users to navigate tasks and situations that standard wheelchairs cannot accommodate.
Outcome:
The adjustable wheelchair design markedly improved users' independence and daily functionality, offering a more versatile and empowering mobility solution.
